Bradley Wiggins Tour de France 20122012 has been a remarkable year for Bradley Wiggins. On the back of winning the 2012 Tour de France and his Olympic Time Trial victory, Wiggins has been knighted in the New Year’s Honours List. He was also named the BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year (SPOTY) earlier in December.

Wiggins can always be relied upon for a colourful comment and his reaction to the knighthood was classic:

“It is an incredible honour and an incredible thing to have. [Sir] is not something I would like to use in daily life because it would sit uneasy with me. The only thing I have insisted upon is that my wife and children call me Sir at home but other than that everyone is free to call me Bradley!”

Dave Brailsford, Great Britain Cycling’s performance director was also knighted.
