Given that it hasn’t been around that long, the Haute Route cyclosportive has quickly gained a reputation as one of the toughest stage-based cyclosportives out there. This year, the Haute Route is expanding beyond its week-long tour through the French Alps to include a Haute Route Pyrenees.

HauteRoutegeneral10-01The organisers have announced the Alps route, with 85 per cent of the course on new roads. You’ll still start in Geneva and finish in Nice, but you’ll have to climb you way over 21,000 vertical meters of ascent to get to the finish.

Sounds like a truly epic way to spend a week on your bike – it’s certainly on my bucket list!

And if you still need some inspiration, check out this great video report of the 2012 event.
