How to Create, Manage and Assign Roles to Users in Wordpress

Creating a website can be a long and arduous job, as it takes many hours of work and the minds of competent people to make any site successful.

With a good idea, nothing is achieved if all this work is not done properly, since it takes some prior knowledge and a lot of patience to be able to form or create a site from scratch, which can be a bit difficult without the right help.

When you create a site, you have tons of platforms that someone can work on depending on their needs or tastes, but luckily most of the most used usually tend to be free or have options to free memberships, such as Google Sites and even the Blogger platform.

And, one of the most used platforms in the current market is Wordpress, a platform that provides all the necessary tools to a user to be able to create content on a highly customizable page that is quite intuitive to handle with basic knowledge in mind.

On Wordpress, you can use all kinds of plugins or special add-ons to be able to create a site with specific characteristics, or at least to be able to have something unique with the correct use of the different themes that can be changed manually to modify the aesthetics of the site.

And while certainly many of these tools tend not to be free, there are enough free tools to be able to create a site that can be easily differentiated from others.

But, probably the most important addition that you have to make a website is the workforce, especially when you need to upload large amounts of content.

In a site like Wordpress you need people who upload content, people who manage it and people who can manage the site as such, and this is referred to as roles within the Wordpress platform, and that is what we will talk about today.

What are Wordpress roles?

When you have a very large site, you may find that you need to create different credentials for the people who work there, since not everyone can have the same credentials for any exercise.

For example, you cannot be given the freedom of a administrator yet editor, since that can get to bring great problems for the page; this is known as roles.

The roles are profiles in Wordpress with special permissions to perform certain activities or tasks, since you have the administrator profile that has control and access to all aspects of the page, and then you have profiles such as the author, which is responsible for uploading and publishing your own content to the same page.

How to create and manage roles in Wordpress?

When you create a profile within a Wordpress page, you have the opportunity to assign a role to that profile so that it can perform a task on the site. For this, the administrator has to enter the section of «Users» which is inside the Wordpress menu, and then click on «Add new”.

On this screen, you have to fill in all the empty fields in order to create a profile, and at the end you can see the option to «Profile», where you must specify the role that this person will play within the Wordpress page.

On the other hand, if what you want is to manage the roles in terms of changing who has which role, the administrator must enter the section of «Users», and I enter «All users”Go to the user whose role you want to change and click on edit, and then go to the section of «Profile» to be able to change the role of the person on the page.
