Solution: Install VirtualBox Guest-Additions on Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat (Beta)

This morning I had the need to install the new one Ubuntu Maverick Meerkat beta in Virtual box.

vbox additions

The installation has been simple but when it was time to install the Guest-Additions (host applications) the first complications arose. I was not satisfied with the resolution of 640 × 480 and I have started looking for one solution.

Until now, the only thing we did to install the Guest-Additions in the previous distros was to mount the cd and execute the classic command:

sudo ./VBoxLinuxAdditions-x86.run

In version 10.10 it seemed not to work. To enjoy these features it is now necessary to install the package virtualbox-ose-guest-x11 found in the Maverick repositories.

To install it you only need write the following command in terminal and hit enter:

sudo apt-get install virtualbox-ose-guest-x11

To perform this step we need to have the virtual machine connected to the internet (It is not necessary to install the package that includes VirtualBox) and then we will restart the team.

Once this step is finished, we will be able to enjoy Maverick Meerkat with the resolution that we want on our screen. I hope this little advice helps many of you.
